WELCOME TO HELL, Carlos!
The Bungles Draft is shaping up with LOTS of high profile “known” players!…Gresham, Dunlap, Shipley,…(and Ghee)…Big names from BIG schools! There have been “some” names called, though, that most people might NOT be familiar with,…at least not yet!;
Emmanuel Sanders (smu)#82, Eric Decker (minnesota) #87, Andre Roberts (citadel) #88, Amanti Edwards (appy state) #89, and Taylor Price (ohio) #90, to name a few. All FIVE of these guys are, as you’ve guessed by now, wide recievers taken in the 3rd round;…–all ahead of hometown hero Mardy Gilyard.
Some “experts” had the Bungles taking Gilyard in the SECOND round, but they took Dunlap….and you can’t blame them for that, its a SUPER pick. That makes it two years in a row they’ve added a #1 pick, in the 2nd round! Rey Mag last year, and the FREAK II this year! Had Dunny not gotten a DUI last December, he’s long gone in the REAL first round. He’s a super quick DE who returned KICKS in High School! So, value there and it also keeps in step with the philosophy of “SOP” (son of Paul) how he covets players w/characters flaws (and thus a sense of hightened value). OK, great if things work out, so so much when they dont. Cast a stone here, if you be of that Puritan race where you expect College kids to be sensible at all times!!!…-then eat a bag of —-! DUI isn’t anything to brag about, for sure, but the national numbers suggest this is happening pretty often…I am not supporting those who get into THIS kind of trouble, by any MEANS! Still, it IS an incident of trouble, and SOP loves those type of players/contracts!
The third round: The third round was typical of the Draft, in that there was the “position” run that ALL Drafts have. This 3rd round saw a run at Wide Out, kicked off Tennessee took the USC guy, Damian Williams at #77. Carolina rang in with an awesome p/u in Brandon LaFell of LoSerU! The Bengals were just just six picks from thier selection at that pint…and Pittsburgh was two ahead of them! Would this be the spot for Gilyard? Pitt needed help, but took Emmanuel Sanders of SMU! Certainly there was speculation that the Bengals would take Gilyard!…..but, Jordan Shipley was taken instead. BOOM!…There can be justification made for Shipley over Gilyard,…Then as the run continued, no call to Mr Gilyard! The Bengals had another pick in the round, but no WAY they use it on another wr!….unless,….unless,……(I can dream, can’t I?..),…..they DUMP CHUD!?!?!?!
I know,..not a chance, he’s too good a dancer to let go!…..sadly, that’s all most Bengal fans care about!
Take away from it?…A great season!
12-1 sucks, dont it?…Yeah, it sucked for the Gator fans too! They/we were pizzed off, after the ‘Bammer game. They thought they’d be playing next week, on Thursday! That didn’t happen, though, because they screwed the pooch in the SEC Championship game. Alabama had things working, and outplayed Florida. Now BAMMER gets the big date with the “Steers”, and a shot at the big brass ring.
Florida got to play one more game before it would be “over”…and ANY BCS Bowl game is an honor and a big deal; Win or lose. UC had a great year, no shame in going 12-1,….No shame in winning a (BCS) Div One Crown!….No shame in igniting a city’s passion for Football;- in a town void of “good” Sport for so long. No shame in putting the city on the Football map, and placing two great players (and super individuals) into the NFL Draft board! (at least)

In 1995, Florida went 12-0 through te regular season, and earned a game with the Corndogs from Nebraska!….They led after the first quarter, but ended up getting pummeled by perhaps the greatest College Football team of all time….at least some can argue they were! Florida responded by winning the National Title the following year. Steve Spurrier wasn’t the Coach bringing in 5-star recruits with much regularity. He took his “kind” of players, and made they play his brand of Football. Kinda like what Brian Kelly was doing here. UCincinnati can use this season as a springboard, to continue this success. The loss last night might have looked bad, or felt bad, but its part of the growth. The city showed they will support this, and the love is everywhere. I went to 8 different places today, and was cursed out in everyone!….That’s some good Bearcat support there, folks!

CJ Spiller or Mardy Gilyard?
You’re the Bungles top brASS-person….meaning you’re Mike or Katie! You have a mid-twenty pick in the NFL Draft, due to some shrewd pre-draft day deal. With your regular pick (a mid-teen pick) you address the DE hole you feel needs sureing up, but in the mid-or-early twenty something pick you see: CJ Spiller and also note that Mardy Gilyard is there. Who do YOU take?
CJ Spiller or Mardy Gilyard?….Spiller rates (presently) as perhaps the higher pick, but how could SOP (or YOU AS SOP!?!?!) “pass” on this kid Gilyard without pause? I say you got a tUFf call there,….but I take MG! WHY?…Cause, more than anything, I want to dump Chud Ocho-stinko off the squad, and if I DIDN’T just move his clown-act ass to GET this pick, I trade him after I make it for anything I could get!…yes, even for a cooler full of Sam Adam Octoberfest bee-yuhz!

Of course, what are the odds we get a front line DE (Hardy) and then fall into another first-round pick (trade Chud!…trade Chud!…) particularly with the REAL SOP and Katie in charge!?!?!?
One of the GOOD ONES!
MARDY GILYARD!. Today Paul Daugherty filled the Sports page with a good read (rare, sure!), but it was Gilyard who provided the inspiration. This story is so good (the real life one, not perticularly Daugherty’s) that it should be a movie so the whole nation can understand what this kid has done with his life. If you missed the story in the paper, and I can understand if you did, here it is: GILYARD
What the NFL has produced in wr’s is usually some ass-hat like TO, Chud Johnson or the old Randy Moss…..What Mardy Gilyard has become, and I’d hope he stays, is certainly anything but “them”! This is not a reflection on any lack of talent (he’s shown us that already!), but strictly on the fact he’s done what he has, and NOT been lost on the lessons. This kid deserves everything he’s gonna get, playing on Sunday’s next year, and hopefully he can inspire more players to follow in his footsteps. These are the players the media should be exploiting over-and-over, not the ones with the sh.tty attitudes and lack of respect.

IF you take one thing from Paul D’s story, take this: …”Every day I get here, I feel so blessed”. I relish every millie-second I have here. I don’t expect nothing. Sometimes, you might feel like people owe you something. I don’t”.
I’ve long waited for the UC Football program to become relevant, and having one of the leaders on this team turn out like this guy makes it all that much sweeter. Great job, great talent, Mr Gilyard.
It would by MY Xmas wish that SOP and his family of Bungle-brass do whatever they can to bring him in as Chud’s replacement, for 2010!…sadly, he doesn’t quite have that negative element that SOP covets so much.
