UF.jpgAccording to US News and World Report, the University of Florida is the 10th most popular school in the US.  The ratings are based on a comparison of how many students who are accepted actually choose to attend the school.  Florida, which ranks 49th in its list of best US colleges and 17th best public schools, accepted 42% of applicants.  Of this group 63% of those gaining admission chose to attend the school.  Florida is only one of 10 schools with a net yield greater than 60%, exceeding such prestigious institutions as Columbia, Brown, UNC at Chapel Hill, etc.

The study rates the popularity of schools showing how motivated students are to attending such Universities.  The SEC placed 6 schools in the top 30 with Florida being joined by LSU (16), Georgia (20), Alabama (22), Tennessee (27), and Kentucky (30). Of those schools only Georgia is close to UF in overall national ranking (58) and among public schools (20). Alabama (83) is the only other school in the top 30 of popularity to be in the top 100 in national rankings.

Within the State of Florida the other two schools in the Big Three, Florida State University and the University of (the 305) Miami, both ranked behind the state’s uflagship university. Florida State ranked 32nd in popularity with a higher acceptance rate and much lower national ranking (102 overall and 50 for Public Universities) than Florida.  While the University of Miami rated much better than FSU in national ranking at 51%, it’s popularity of 27% ranked it at 101st in popularity.

This means that while UM only admits 38% of it’s applicants each year that barely a quarter of those who apply and are accepted actually CHOOSE to go to Coral Gables.  This might factor greatly into why the Hurricanes have such a hatred of UM.  Nobody want’s to go there and those that do probably go there because they weren’t accepted elsewhere. It’s not a true hatred for the Gators, it’s more of a self-loathing and bitterness for being stuck in Coral Gables rather than being in Gainesville (or perhaps Tallahassee).  The academics are solid but the ridiculous tuition and dangerous urban location seem to be turning a lot of potential students away.

Here’s a national study that shows once again why the SEC has such a great tradition and fan base while Florida has carried the SEC banner nationally for the past decade plus.  Once again, proof positive that It’s Great To Be A Florida Gator!!!

BCS & AP agree….its great to be, a Florida Gator!

CONGRATES TO THOSE FINE FLORIDA GATORS!,….and the legacy of the Teeb’s continues!

Utah finishes 4th in Coaches Poll, but their coach voted for himself even though they (as Coaches) support the BCS -nice!…..In the AP poll, Utah gets 16 first place votes and finish 2nd. Mark May disses the Utes by not even mentioning them as a team who should be considered, all the while slobbering on the USCw knob!….Lou Holtz?…he lisped through something few can hear, and even fewer can comprehend. Isn’t it past his bed-time?

Kyle Willingham’s Utah vote might have some short term effect for his team, the support of them despite reality, but I can’t think this will be something he fondly looks back on and says “Yeah, that was a good idea”. Playoff or not,…and we do NOT have a playoff,…and will not for a minimum of 6 more years!,  you have to be thinking of your future; -and not only of this moment. Its not even a “good” statement, after you realizesee that the (other) Coaches (your peers) still voted you 4th!, You kinda look stupid….and kinda whiney. I understand your thinking there “KYLE!”, but by doing that you appear bitchy.

Can ANYone justify the support for Texas being considered a partial Champion this year?…..They lost out to a tie-breaker rule THEY SIGNED UP FOR,…and just a few months ago! USC?…Your two biggest wins came against BIG1(1)0 teams!…..not really looking to bash the BIG1(1)0 here, but its a reality, man. OSU played w/o Beanie, who looks to be a pretty big part of that team,….then you beat PSU in your home game. VERY impressive team, but not enUFf to qualify a jump over the BCS winner,…there’s just not. I’d LOVE to see the Florida vs USC game, but its not going to happen, and didn’t because if it had, I’d be saying how I’d love to see the UF vs Okly game! Sorry Mark May, Florida would have beat USC too. Many said the BIG12 was the best conference this year,…and maybe the SEC was 2nd. Head-2-Head, the SEC went 2-0 against them, and the BIG12 top 4 teams won ONE Bowl game this season, and did THAT by taking OSU out with 16 seconds left in their Bowl. Hardly OVERLY impressive!

Utah?…I think here, like Mark May did, I’m not going to even put them in here. Not that they didn’t have a FINE year, or that beating Alabama wasn’t impressive…..I think Alabama played poorly, in the same game that Utah didn’t play poorly. The TCU game, which they did win, stands out. I think they can win ONE, but really, with the likes of Florida, Oklahomey or USC?…really, would anyone bet their nuts on Utah?…NO! not saying it would be impossible,…just …No!

Apparently the AP and Coaches thought so too,..at least collectively. So,….NICE RUN GATORS…..just give us more!…in 2009

*Nic Harris, Senior DB for Oklahomey,…..This kid is very impressive on the field with his solid play, and in the media room after the game,..wow!…I came away very impressed with that kid. Most of these kids get overwhelmed by the media and cameras, but he was a natural in there.
