Can you imagine the drama of a win or go home playoff? Can you imagine Utah, Texas and USC now advancing? What am I missing? The smugness of the NCAA kills me. They take care of the big conferences and feed a couple of scraps to the little brothers. They give us 1 vs 2 to decide the national title and leave us with 33 other bowls that don’t impact the title game. But hey, they let us debate the merits of Utah, Texas, USC, and the winner of Okl-Florida….. Can’t wait til Thursday. Oklahoma and Florida decide the BCS’s national champion. The fans debate who should be the champion. How is that a good thing? from lance’s blog I agree. The UC game and the Buckeyes’ game were nothing more than a glorified scrimmage. What prize was there? A consolation to UF/OU? |
By taking this position, you are saying ANY game that doesn’t have a “do-or-die” formula to it, isn’t worth watching?…WELL DAMN DOG, THAT’S THE WHOLE COLLEGE FOOTBALL SEASON!….Tell me, had the Bungles beaten Pittsburgh TWICE during the “Oh-so-thrilling” NFL season, would that have meant thing ONE?…..NO!…..Pittsburgh is still in the Playoffs, and the Bungles (and those 2 games) were as meaningless as a clean shirt on a dead racoon.
In the AWESOME NFL,…we have Bungle games at the end of the year, with NO Chud,…NO TJ, and NO Palmer……now, in “some” cases this is the result of an ACTUAL injury,….and not some ploy to get out of playing, ’cause they’re afraid of getting hurt!….even though they’re paid millions for that VERY REASON!!!….ooooh, how uplifting for the paying fans!!! yeah, that 3 game win streak was AWESOME F’in FOOTBALL BABY!!!!!!
Or the game the NY Giants played in week 17!….WOW!…my colon is still clenched shut!! …the Giants were already IN the playoffs,….
In College, you have a playoff game every week!….for the most part. Sure, with parity catching on, a one loss (or even 2 loss teams) get the nod to play in the game. Utah this year, Auburn a few years ago, and everyone’s darling, Tulane several years ago went undefeated and didn’t get to play in it…..unfortunate for sure, and maybe even unjust…but you deal with 119 teams in College, not 32 budget-less Pro teams. Pro teams with PRO players that don’t have another job (classes).
Those pushing for a playoff have really gotten funny,….kinda like your statements above…..and desperate. Trying to make up things in some case.
I appreciate the College Football season,…..USCw has no beef, and Utah’s beef was really only recently established after a surprise (yet dominating) win over an SEC team….that validation, or request FOR validation, kinda speaks volume FOR the SEC, doesn’t it!…???. A team feels they are Crown worthy after beating an SEC team!….that’s pretty cool!
You know what you never heard during the “old” days of College Football?…That the system was unfair!. Know why?….’cause “your” team was taking advantage of something in those days…..For some teams like OSU, who counts like 45 National titles to their credit even though the organization(NCAA) have/has it far lower, this time was a while ago.
They dominated the landscape, and took FULL advantage of the lax ways of the NCAA. The “take as many as you want” days where you horded ANY kid who looked at you are, sadly for some, over. Its 85 scholly’s now!…if you’re good. Kinda ODD/funny or hypocritical that they NOW (not just ‘OSU’) are LOOKING FOR “JUSTICE”!, when for YEARS they fought tooth and nail from keeping the changes from coming that would affect their advantages over other Schools!
There have been changes made to the College games, good changes…Same as every other Sport!….remember, the NFL use to play < 8 games a year!….
If you don’t like the Bowls, or the match-ups,…you don’t watch. Hawai’i vs ND this year, didn’t mean much to me either!….but there were 15-20 I really lliked!….and one BIG one left!
