WAIT!?!?!…Duh’sty can read?……

bakerx

“Nix is in, Dickerson is out as Baker goes with hotter bat”….and the sage advice his assistant read to him on FatGuySports.com!”….Its in The Enquirer today…Go ahead, read the Sports page!..Yeah,  and help increase the circulation of that Commie-Rag trash paper. Well, if you’re like me, you probably don’t (often) get your paper before you leave for work, and didn’t GET to read that. The paper delivery people we get make it about 3 times a week. Some people think more timely deliveries would actually HELP sales,…but who knows???….

Anyway, NIX, Hanigan and Janish got starts, and !…..REDS WIN 6-5 ! Now, if only Gonzo and Double “E” can stay the HAIL away, maybe the Reds can stay above .500 for awhile. Sadly, it was but a token start for Hanigan. Baker will never let him start 2 games in the same week….He’d rather quit Toothpicks “cold turkey”!

Cueto and the Reds shutout Pie-rites, 5-0, move 2 games over .500 (13-11)! Cueto went 8 innings, allowing 4 hits, a walk, fanned 9 Bucks, and lowered his ERA to 1.65.

The win is the 9th in their last 13 road games, ans was the 5th shutout of the year-that leads the majors!  Homer Bailey who?

They call him JOE

Joe Mauer has been a household name, to many, since he snubbed F$U on his LOI back in 2001. An accomplished QB in High School, he won the love of Semi’s fresh off of a 1999 Title win over Vargina Tech (and dog killer, M Vick).
Its about time everyone recognize this guy. Last night in his first game back in Baseball, dude contributes with a first AB Home Run and adds a double to boot. This, after sitting out with “catcher” back for the first month of the season. He is, part machine!

Minnesota’s Joe Mauer brought a big smile back to the dugout after hitting a home run in his first at-bat of the season.
Is it really that easy, his teammates jokingly asked?
Mauer looked like a natural in his delayed season debut and scored three times in the Twins’ 7-5 victory over Kansas City.
“I was a little nervous. It was kind of like an opening day,” Mauer said.
Mauer, who sat out all of spring training and then missed the first 22 games while recovering from a back injury, came off the disabled list in the afternoon. It was difficult to imagine the two-time batting champion making more of an impact on his first night.
“Some guys can do it a little bit better than others, and he’s one of those guys,” manager Ron Gardenhire said.

This guy is impressive, and how he was never lured by the brighter lights and larger NYankee dollars, is a credit as well. This guy defines the “team” effort small market Minnesota has built, and helped them to be an annual contender- despite their location. This ain’t your Daddy’s Kirby Puckett Twins, but damn they play it like it should be played, up there in Cheese country. Why is it SO hard to copy, we wonder,…down here in Cincinnati. Of course, Joe mauer’s don’t grow on trees!,…but, neither do Votto’s and Bruce’s…right??  READ MORE HERE

Yankee design

Its been explained that the Yankees had not found anything conclusive from previous wind pattern studies at the new Yankee Stadium.

But thanks to the right field wind tunnel theory, given the preponderance of home runs, meteorologists are getting involved.

Accu-weather.com meteorologists “estimate that the angle of the seating in the new stadium could have an effect on wind speed across the field,” in an interpretive news release issued by the Web site Monday afternoon:

“The old Yankee Stadium had more stacked tiers and a large upper deck, acting like a solid wall in effect, which would cause the wind to swirl more and be less concentrated. The new Yankee Stadium’s tiers are less stacked, making a less sharp slope from the top of the stadium to the field. This shape could enable winds to blow across the field with less restriction. In addition, the slope of the seating would also lead to a ‘downslope’ effect in the field which, depending on the wind direction, would tend to cause air to lift up in the right field. Fly balls going into right field during a gusty west wind would be given more of a lift, thus carrying the ball further out to right field.

Accuweather.com says if it is the seat angle that’s caused the issue, the only games that will be affected will be during times when “the winds are from a westerly direction and above 10 mph. This typically occurs during the spring and the middle to late fall.” Therefore, according to Accu-weather, the calmer weather in the summer will lead to fewer home runs.

Executives with Populous, formerly HOK Sport, the firm that designed the stadium are now referring all calls to the Yankees.

Ahh,…Opening Day. Looks like it’ll be a sh.tty day, and if you believe in Preludes!,…then,…yeah,….Well, that’s enUFf about import cars, its AMERICAN BASEBALL TIME! This “day” usually has less to do with the game, and MORE about the event. So, ENJOY IT CINCY!!!!, its generally short-lived enthusiasm anyway…..- noticing how the Reds finished their final Spring session in ‘Sota this year, well….Honda Preludes all around!

openingday09

  1. Willy Taveras – CF
  2. Jerry Hairston – LF   - Santana to go for the Mets?
  3. Brandon Phillips – 2B
  4. Joey Votto – 1B
  5. Edwin Encarnacion – 3B
  6. Jay Bruce – RF
  7. Alex Gonzalez – SS
  8. Ramon Hernandez – C
  9. Aaron Harang – P

Looks like the last year for Dusty, huh?….yeah, I’m bummed too!…Oh well, GO REDS!

The Enquirer is supporting THIS line-up,…over mine…..BASTAGES!

Jerry Hairston, Darnell McDonald, Joey Votto, Brandon Phillips, Jay Bruce, Edwin Encarnacion, Ramon Hernandez, Alex Gonzo, and Aaron Harang,…I like mine better! -How’s Tavares gonna steal 100 bases, sitting on the bench?

NOTE TO REDS!…pASS on Gary Sheffy!

The Reds have indicated a willingness to “talk” with Gary Sheffield about his employment status,….in so much that they’re gonna have a sit down with him today. Sheffy!?!?!….former Tiger, who in a limited role last year hit .224!!!.. as a DH only in Detroit?….A 40 year old that can’t play (a position) a lick ANYwhere,  & just hits?….Sheff-Daddy! I didn’t in all honesty get to see him play a whole lot the last few years, but what I did wasn’t good!…and what I hear, is more of the same. If Detroit is willing to get him out, AND PAY him $14 mil,..the dude has faults! But why so against this possible move/addition?…..Jonny “hands of stone” Gomes, of course!

jonnygomes

This is the guy how should be playing every 2nd or 3rd day (once the season is off and going),..NOT Gary Sheffield! You think when the going gets tUFf, that Sheffy will be out there laying down the law, or back in the dugout pimpin’ yet another restricting injury???   $400,000 a year for a career .292 hitter with 499 HR’s sounds tempting, so I understand the interest, but pASS on the thought here, Cast-i!…just keep on walking,….Gomes is our guy!  Sheff’s best, or even servicable, days are behind him!

Japan (again), in a classic Classic!

…CAN you use “classic Classic” in a headline?….No,..not REALLY!

Land of the rising sun and stock-market-like dropping breaking balls, Japan “rises” once again, to the international challenge, in the World Baseball Classic!

japanwinsagain

Team USA is left scratching its “left-one” wondering why this game appears so hard to them, but so easy to the Pac-Rim!….Japan and (South) Korea played out a brilliant final….whilst the American scurried back to training camps….embarassed (or at least I hope they were) by the now COLD FACT they cannot compete with these “team-Teams”!  (can you use team-,…nah, never mind). Oh for the day we were “good” at “our” game. I blame the Unions and scUMbag agents for screwing up the game. No way the 1975 or 1976 Reds would have gone out like that!….

In the FAST fading Finale Spring season for the Reds in Sarasota, there have been good signs of what MIGHT be possible. The pitchers that are being counted on, seem to be holding up pretty well. Johnny “be-good” Cueto, yesterday’s starter threw 4 strong innings against the Jays – only to see the lead fall late, and a loss in 10 innings.

…per the “Vegas” Opening line, anyway!….

 redsbaseball2009

USAToday had a good write up about the POTENTIAL Reds starting pitching, and the POSSIBILITY of the starting 5 being an envious group. AND!,..in THEORY, they have a mentionable point!..still, I think .500 is as good as they’ll get, with the possibility of a +/- two or three game swing. However!,…if that pitching promise materializes,…AND the hitting is there to support the POTENTIAL pitching (again, a reach, but possible) “strength”?….., how are we gonna handle being in a “playoff race” in this town?…..What’s that even LIKE?…It will be interesting to note if the fans will be able to handle a run like that…..-nah,..never mind!
