It isn’t the most exciting time in the recruiting world right now. College coaches are consumed with spring practice and high school players are just worried about getting more verbal offers.
Players are attending 7-on-7 camps, and waiting for spring evaluations. Commitments still happen, but its slow right now. -Here are a few “now”notes on some big targets.
Latroy Pittman, WR, Citra Marion County (Florida commit)
— Pittman remains very solid with his verbal to Florida. One of his major reasons for graduating early is so he can get a head start on working with quarterback Jeff Driskel.
— There was talk that he was going to visit Miami last weekend, but he didn’t. However, he was in Gainesville to check out Florida’s practice.
— With his ability at receiver, he’ll only continue to get hounded by other schools between now and December.
Sean Price, TE, Citra Marion County
— Though Florida has offered, he’s trying to get more acquainted with UF’s new staff.
— He’s got more than 20 offers, but South Florida, Miami and Florida are his top schools.
— With the Bulls, he’s developed a strong relationship with the coaches there and USF has a pretty favorable depth chart.
— Miami’s history of making the tight end a huge part of the offense is an attraction, but it will be interesting to see what new coach Al Golden does with the tight end in his offense.
Tracy Howard, CB, Miramar
— Howard is one of the top cornerback prospects on Florida’s board. And for good reason. He’s got great speed and instincts. While he isn’t saying Florida is his outright leader, it certainly feels that way.
— His top schools also include Florida State, LSU and Alabama
— Howard is a big fan of Alabama coach Nick Saban, so the fact that he spends a lot of time with the defensive backs is a plus for him.
— Miami and FSU’s history of producing top-notch defensive backs is something that is very attractive to Howard, but his relationship with Florida’s coaches is standing out right now. Florida’s atmosphere and the recent success of Joe Haden and the eventual success of Janoris Jenkins are also steering Howard toward the Gators.
— He’ll make his college decision on National Signing Day and it seems Florida will certainly be in it until the very end.
Brian Poole, CB, Bradenton Southeast
— Poole will challenge Howard for the state’s top cornerback spot this summer and fall.
— Like Howard, he’s got the Gators near the top of his list. He’s also got a ton of verbal offers. Too many to count, really.
— One thing going for Florida is Poole’s strong relationship he’s developed with defensive backs coach Travaris Robinson. That should go a long way.
— Poole has visited FSU, USF and Notre Dame. If you’re wondering why the Irish showed up, he’s got family connections in Indiana.
— He’s looking to make his decision before his senior season.
Tyriq McCord, DE, Tampa Jefferson
— Talk about bulking up. McCord weighed around 200 pounds a couple months ago and is now up to 220. He’s also got 4.5 speed to go with that weight.
— He’s got double-digit offers, but won’t narrow his list down until the summer.
— Florida has offered and with his versatility, he’s being looked as a defensive end-linebacker hybrid. On film, he shows the ability to be a great pass rusher off the edge.
— Tight ends coach Derek Lewis has been recruiting him the hardest for Florida, but he has yet to visit with Florida’s new staff.
— He’s also getting some love from a couple Texas schools. TCU has offered and former defensive line coach Dan McCarney is recruiting him to North Texas.
