OPENING DAY!
AT Last, the crap taste of ANOTHER failure of a Football season is gone, and the warming outlook of Baseball season is upon us!! 44 degrees by game time I hear!
FGSports is a little pizzed Dave Sappelt wont be on the team as they head North, but the minors seem loaded at nearly every position. Sapp, Devin Mesoraco and Chris Valaika are 3 that made a lot of noise this Spring, and will be “up” during the year. Was/is Fred “Garvin” Lewis a better option, than Sappelt? Please do NOT let this be another blind man-love fest that Dusty has with a faux lead-off man…..aka: Corey Patterson! If Fred “Garvin” Lewis hits a solo Home Run tomorrow, in a losing effort, the Reds are sunk!
So, lets hope he does well, but no solo Home Run, cuz then its 2008 all over again!

Its Beer Sellars before the game, that’s where all the BEST Reds fans will be anyway!

UFootball news
It isn’t the most exciting time in the recruiting world right now. College coaches are consumed with spring practice and high school players are just worried about getting more verbal offers.
Players are attending 7-on-7 camps, and waiting for spring evaluations. Commitments still happen, but its slow right now. -Here are a few “now”notes on some big targets.
Latroy Pittman, WR, Citra Marion County (Florida commit)
— Pittman remains very solid with his verbal to Florida. One of his major reasons for graduating early is so he can get a head start on working with quarterback Jeff Driskel.
— There was talk that he was going to visit Miami last weekend, but he didn’t. However, he was in Gainesville to check out Florida’s practice.
— With his ability at receiver, he’ll only continue to get hounded by other schools between now and December.
Sean Price, TE, Citra Marion County
— Though Florida has offered, he’s trying to get more acquainted with UF’s new staff.
— He’s got more than 20 offers, but South Florida, Miami and Florida are his top schools.
— With the Bulls, he’s developed a strong relationship with the coaches there and USF has a pretty favorable depth chart.
— Miami’s history of making the tight end a huge part of the offense is an attraction, but it will be interesting to see what new coach Al Golden does with the tight end in his offense.
Tracy Howard, CB, Miramar
— Howard is one of the top cornerback prospects on Florida’s board. And for good reason. He’s got great speed and instincts. While he isn’t saying Florida is his outright leader, it certainly feels that way.
— His top schools also include Florida State, LSU and Alabama
— Howard is a big fan of Alabama coach Nick Saban, so the fact that he spends a lot of time with the defensive backs is a plus for him.
— Miami and FSU’s history of producing top-notch defensive backs is something that is very attractive to Howard, but his relationship with Florida’s coaches is standing out right now. Florida’s atmosphere and the recent success of Joe Haden and the eventual success of Janoris Jenkins are also steering Howard toward the Gators.
— He’ll make his college decision on National Signing Day and it seems Florida will certainly be in it until the very end.
Brian Poole, CB, Bradenton Southeast
— Poole will challenge Howard for the state’s top cornerback spot this summer and fall.
— Like Howard, he’s got the Gators near the top of his list. He’s also got a ton of verbal offers. Too many to count, really.
— One thing going for Florida is Poole’s strong relationship he’s developed with defensive backs coach Travaris Robinson. That should go a long way.
— Poole has visited FSU, USF and Notre Dame. If you’re wondering why the Irish showed up, he’s got family connections in Indiana.
— He’s looking to make his decision before his senior season.
Tyriq McCord, DE, Tampa Jefferson
— Talk about bulking up. McCord weighed around 200 pounds a couple months ago and is now up to 220. He’s also got 4.5 speed to go with that weight.
— He’s got double-digit offers, but won’t narrow his list down until the summer.
— Florida has offered and with his versatility, he’s being looked as a defensive end-linebacker hybrid. On film, he shows the ability to be a great pass rusher off the edge.
— Tight ends coach Derek Lewis has been recruiting him the hardest for Florida, but he has yet to visit with Florida’s new staff.
— He’s also getting some love from a couple Texas schools. TCU has offered and former defensive line coach Dan McCarney is recruiting him to North Texas.
Jimmer-Jammer goes for 32, in loss to UF!

the Administration’s recent decision to place a de facto moratorium on offshore drilling in the eastern Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic
Drill?…or, not to Drill?

According to a study by ICF International, expanding domestic energy development in America’s offshore areas could alone generate $1.3 trillion in government revenues over the life of the resource – along with major increases in jobs and economic activity that result from offshore development.
To put this figure in perspective, consider the following numbers:
- In 2010, the U.S. federal budget deficit was $1.3 trillion.
- The total U.S. national debt currently stands at about $13.8 trillion.
- The U.S. oil and natural gas industry contributes more than $1 trillion a year to the U.S. economy.
Drilling in our own waters and in Alaska would do more than increase federal government revenues. Drilling would create hundreds of thousands of jobs, produce billions of dollars in desperately needed state and local tax revenues, supports suffering US industries with low energy costs, keeps prices down at the pumps (that’s more money in your pocket), strengthens their economy, weakens our country’s enemies and much more. Drilling will also increase energy stock values that are owned by American trade unions, private citizens, city and state pension plans, teachers unions, private retirement funds, etc. etc. etc. If we really want health care, we could pay for it with the taxes from US oil. If we really want to reduce the debt then we could pay it down with the taxes from US oil. If we really want to reduce unemployment then we could create jobs with US oil.
#1 keeps rolling
After tremendous pitching carried Florida in its sweep of LSU (@ LoSerU)over the weekend, the Gators let their bats do most of the work Tuesday against Winthrop.
The top-ranked Gators (19-2, 3-0 SEC) cranked out a season-high 24 hits in a 22-5 pounding of the Eagles (9-10, 2-1 Big South).
After scattering six runs over the first five innings, the Gators did the brunt of their damage in the bottom of the fifth and sixth as they registered 10 hits and plated nine over the two innings.
All nine of Florida’s starters recorded a hit before the seventh inning Tuesday.
Sophomore shortstop Nolan Fontana and catcher Mike Zunino both had grand slams, knocking in a combined 10 runs on the night. Fontana went 3-for-5 at the plate with a career-high six RBIs.
Left-hander Steven Rodriguez (1-0, 3.18 ERA) earned the win, going 3.1 innings with three strikeouts and allowing two earned runs, while Winthrop’s Wade Newman (1-1, 8.44) took the loss after pitching 3.1 innings, giving up six runs (four earned) and eight hits.
Think outside the bun!?…ddoonnnnggg!!
You can’t make this shit up!:
A disgruntled Texas taco lover shot at police and triggered a 3 1/2-hour standoff after he became upset that the price of his favorite fast-food snack had gone up 50 cents.
The man, whose name was not disclosed, allegedly flew into a rage Sunday when a drive-through attendant at a San Antonio Taco Bell told him that the price of the Beefy Crunch Burrito had risen to $1.49 from 99 cents, the San Antonio Express-News reported.
“They did use to be 99 cents, but that was just a promotion,” restaurant manager Brian Tillerson told the paper.
The man had ordered seven of them, adding an extra $3.50 plus tax to his bill, the paper said.
Tillerson told police that the man got angry, pulled out a BB gun and fired at him before fleeing into the parking lot.
Employees and customers then spotted the man pulling an assault rifle and a handgun out of the roof of his Mitsubishi Eclipse, the paper said, but he took off just as police arrived.
Patrol cars tailed him for about 2 miles before pulling him over, police said.
The gunman then fired at police with an assault rife – shattering a windshield but missing officers – as cops shot back.
The gunman sped off again and eventually barricaded himself in a motel near Interstate 10, cops said.

Police arrested the suspect after SWAT teams flushed him out of the hotel room using tear gas. (KENS5.com)
As sharpshooters posted up on nearby roofs and authorities began evacuating nearby buildings, negotiators used a megaphone to attempt to coax the man to come out, cops said.
Eventually, SWAT teams flushed the man from the room using tear gas and arrested him, ending the standoff, cops said.
He faces attempted capital murder and weapons charges, police spokesman Sgt. Chris Benavides said.
Tillerson told the Express-News that the man had caused trouble before.
“The weird thing is, he was here a week ago around the same time last Sunday,” Tillerson said. “He yelled at me then, too.”
ITS TACO BELL!….wtf !?!?! I guess if there IS a silver lining here, its that eating at Taco Hell makes the transition to prison food, a rather smooth one!
How do you turn around from 8-5?
The Florida Gators were 8-5 on the field this past year – a year which will be known as the year that caused the head coach to retire early and featured highly recruited talent that did not live up to the hype.
However, there is good news – spring football is here, and young talent who have not played are ready to get their feet wet in spring practice.
Florida is very deep on their roster with talented young players ready to make an impact.
OFFENSE
Up front, freshman Chaz Green, sophomore Ian Silberman, sophomore Nick Alajajian and sophomore Jonotthan Harrison are set to step up into vacated positions along the offensive line. Green is 6-5, 290lbs, Silberman is 6-5, 285lbs, Alajajian is 6-4, 295lbs, and Harrison is 6-3, 300lbs, and all are adequate enough to step right in and give Florida a lift up front. All will be fighting for starting positions come fall.
At running back, Mack Brown looks to step up and earn some playing time this year and provide some much-needed depth and a “power back” that Florida has lacked over the last several of years (minus Tim Tebow). Brown was highly recruited out of Georgia, and the Gators need Brown to be a factor. He has all the talent in the world if he can just pick up the new offense.
Chris Dunkley is one wide receiver that should make a huge impact. Dunkley was hurt all of last year, his freshman year. Now, he is healthy and ready to make his move in the spring. Dunkley adds a deep threat to the receiving corps, something that was lacking all of 2010.
DEFENSE
Along the defensive line, end Chris Martin is a guy who could make an instant-impact to Florida’s ability to get to the quarterback. Martin is a transfer from Cal, where he enrolled there as a freshman and left recently thereafter. Martin is 6-4, 240lbs and will remind a lot of folks of Cam Newton as a freshman, with his lanky but athletic stature. Opposite Ronald Powell, Martin has a chance to take Florida’s pass rush to the next level, as Powell will command double teams.
At linebacker, two players who stand out to me that you may have never heard of are Michael Taylor and Gerald Christian. Taylor is from Georgia and was stolen, so to speak, from a Tennessee recruiting class two years ago. Taylor is a ball-hawk and has a nose for the football. Gerald Christian came to Florida to the play the “Aaron Hernandez position” at tight end; however, Will Muschamp and defensive coordinator Dan Quinn have moved him to linebacker. The 6-3, 232lb Christian will get his opportunity at linebacker, and I think he will excel there.
The 2011 Florida Gators will still be a young-minded team. However, they do have the young talent and players ready to step into those vacated positions to provide depth and play-making ability.
