The Rag-quirer asks, is "The Curtain falling on Chad Show?"…
First off, its appropriate that they worded it as a “show”, since that’s all this guy has ever been about! Helping himself, and making the game(and team) into a show for him- all the while compromising the team’s chances. On 31 other NFL teams, this approach would have gotten even a semi-talented player booted. Here in Cincinnati, though, it means he’s a celebrated player who has lasted a decade!
Even the “ass of all asses”, Terrel Owens, didn’t stay on teams who, themselves, boasted of being teams that took on asshole players, and tried and groom them into players that help the machine run. TO, for example, was moved from San Fran, Philly, Dallas, and even bUFfalo, before he landed here. Now, TO, to his credit, was always a tireless worker who kept himself healthy by AVOIDING McDonalds food, and spent every season “working out”,…not just one, like Chud. He also didn’t look to make a news splash of the lone effort he undertook,….once! TO is an ASS, a super-ass even, and not the type of player I “like” much….but, he is a certain Hall of Famer, and he works a lot. He also benefits the team he’s palying for, right up until he decides he’s not happy anymore;…Then, well, he’s often on the move at that point.
TO is 37 (will be 38 in December of next season) and will be looking for bigger money in 2011. After the numbers he put up here, he will get more offers than the ONE he got last year. Sure, he loves playing lover-boy to Chud, but he’ll take the money and run next season….Good riddance, I say. His next year will unlikely be as good as this one he just had.
BUT!, back to the Enquirer’s stupid head-line about this being Chud’s last year…..Unless Mike Brown gets smacked on his thinning head (and REALLY REALLY hard), Chud will have ONE more year in Cincy…– and THAT!, will likely be Chud’s last in Cincy and the NFL. My celebration will be short-lived as he’s just the ass-hole ESPN is looking for to get in a booth. Again, what Chud has been “working” on for at least the last 6 years as a “player”! Time better spent on Chud as the individual, and not Chud the member of a “TEAM”! The TEAM was/is just the vehicle he’s driving to the after-life (of sports), and nothing more.
Again though, why 2011 will be Chud’s last, and NOT 2010; Mike Brown never pays players (or coaches) to leave early….Discount Antonio Bryant, because he just flat-out duped MB and that crack Bungles “staff”! Making them believe he could still run on that knee of his. Kudo’s to Mr Bryant, but I’d still look over my shoulder for the next few years just to be safe. Chad’s “option”(that kinda stretches to the limit, the definition of “option”, huh?) is 6 million!…imo, 5.5 mil more than he’s worth. But, there is a market value system at work here too. His “option” also states that’s he’s owed 3.5 million if the Bungles don’t “exercise” it! Yeah, meaning that his replacement will have to make less than 2.5 million for Mikey to break even! Translation: There’s NOT A CHANCE he will be leaving Cincy for the 2011 season. Advancing the thought; Can the crack(er)-ass staff at the Cincy Enquirer be that blind?…that stupid?, or that desperate to fill their paper with flUFf? I’m betting its a combo of all three.
Andre Caldwell is ready now, and he’ll need to be to help Jordan Shipley replace TO’s production. Jerome Simpson is NOT ready, but will need to be in 2012 when Chud does leave…and, I can consider going back to Bengal games!
Caldwell, Shipley and Simpson could be as good as the Bungles need to be competitive in their division (with a BIG part of the duties falling on our young star TE!, of course!). Look at what Pittsburgh, Baltimore and Cleveland are using at wide out; -particularly Pittsburgh and Baltimore. Caldwell is our speed guy (like Wallace in Pitt). With a little work, the fast learning Shipley can be our Anquan Boldin! Jerome Simpson, should he click next year, would be a low mileage 3rd option. If that doesn’t pan out, dump him and draft a guy….very likely this year. Just not anyone who lists Chud Ocho-bleep-o as an idol!
Let’s face it, the Bengals are never going to be a team that wins a lot, often, or consistently….Mikey Brown wont allow it. Even once he falls into the anal-pits of Hell, Katie has promised to run things the same way. So, hit and miss (and miss, and miss, and miss) seasons are what we’ll live with here. Carson Palmer is NOT an All-Pro, but he doesn’t have to be! Most All-Pro QB’s wont come here anyway, so why dismiss him? He’s servicable until Cam Newton signs,…and, knowing Mikey Brown, that’ll be sometime in 2013! (I know, I know, its just a joke!). That and Cam wont ever sign-on to play here! His Dad would never allow it!
So, 2012 may be “the” next up tick year in Bengal football!….Carson Palmer will likely be under the gun from our “new” QB, for the privilege to throw to 4 legit players who will be far better than what we’ve had ’round here in a long while! Caldwell, Shipley, Simpson and Gresham! Throw in our (new) 2nd Running Back….its a trend, and there could be competitive football in this town again!….well, for a year anyway!
Oh, and I’m reserved to thinking Marvin Lewis will be back too. Sure, in other towns he’d have been cut loose a long time ago…But here?, with his hands tied the way they are, who could “do” anymore? -Collectively I mean. He should manage the clock, his red flags, and the time-outs better. He also should be a bit more militant in challenging his players on Sunday’s. No one on this team ever pays a price for a mistake; (but) I’m gonna say that he doesn’t have the authority to sit a clown, though…only Mikey does.
So, 2010 was an embarrassment year for the organization (I know!, so have a great many others, under Mike Brown!)…as many negatives came to light this year. However, since management knows there is a SUPER-forgiving fan base here, they aren’t going to sweat it. So, 2011 will be a 7-9 season. We will, once again, play a bad teams’ schedule, and win at least seven games.
Then in 2012, once Chud is gone, the QB can just make throws where he wants to (and not give asshole Chud 60% of the first “looks”). Offensivley speaking there’s reason to be thinking about enjoying a legit playoff run. Gresham and Simpson will be heavy contributors, and, along with Pro-Bowlers Andre Caldwell and Jordan Shipley should be quite offesive. The Rushing attack will take off because not ALL the wr’s will be running routes straight at cameras (which is why Chud REALLY gets shut-down in games) anymore. The Bungle defense should be serviceable once again, even strong at times! Like is was pre-Mike Brown…..This should last for a year, anyway, then;…well, you know.
