Terrelle Pryor trumps The Vest?

OSU Coach “Vest” (aka: Boring Jim Tressel) has failed to tap the physical gifts of T-Pryor in 3 years, producing only mediocre stats on a team that out-recruits the other 10 conference teams 4-1! So, perhaps queueing off his Coach -it appears Pryor will go about damaging his draft stock TOO!

(From The Sporting News:) — Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor will sit out the first five games of the 2011 season due to receiving discounted services –- a violation of NCAA rules—which will ultimately further hurt his draft stock going forward for two reasons.

The first is that the guy simply broke the rules. He thought he was above the law, tried to get away with something he knew was wrong and will now have to answer questions from NFL scouts concerning his overall maturity level. And sure, it’s not like he got busted with drugs or killed someone, but the facts are this is a mark against the guy’s off the field character and for someone who wants to be the face of the franchise and be an NFL quarterback, this is not the type of trouble you want following around your potential signal caller.

The second concern is that Pryor will miss the first five games of the season and that’s valuable reps he will be missing where he could have been in the game getting better at his trade. As athletic as he is, he’s still a major work in progress as a quarterback, not only from a mental standpoint, but also from a mechanics standpoint as well. And despite how much work he puts in during the offseason, these are five games he will never get back during a pivotal time where he needs to show some improvement to NFL personnel if he hopes to play quarterback in the league.

Overall, I didn’t think he had what it took to be a franchise signal caller before all this went down. And now with another reason to worry about him from a character standpoint, plus the fact he won’t be playing, developing and maturing during the early part of the 2011 season, not only would I not draft the guy as a quarterback, I don’t know if I would even take a shot on him as an athlete until the late portions of the draft.

He just doesn’t seem worth the risk to me.

Terrelle Pryor was a walking Heisman Trophy when he pimped his services, coming out of High School. He couldn’t commit between PENniState, UMichy and tOSU…..He was(is) tall, physical, speedy, and has a strong arm! Buckeyes everywhere figured not only was he a cant miss Heisman winner (each of the last 3 years)m but certainly HE would be the guy to snap the win-less streak against the (now) hated SEC!

He should have been, too! He picked the right Big10 School too, of course; Though Michy was more suited for him, most now say. Michy might not have provided him with the wins he figured it would take to become a first round pick though. OSU, without any real competition in conference, would! Sadly, he didn’t figure on Tressy-ball hanging on him like a wife!

To date his biggest stat date was against Oregon in last years Bowl game, and….Despite opening the season as nearly everyone’s Heisman LOCK, he didn’t even make the trip to New York. He’s a valuable player and QB for the Buckeyes, but there are 15-20 QB’s alone that have done better and could have had the Buckeyes right where they are right now. Well, sans this messy little violations thingy. In short, he was suppose to be everything Cam Newton is, and has become down at Auburn.

It can be argued that Auburn is maybe 7-5 or 8-4 w/o Mr Newton….Could Pryor have been that dynamic at Michigan by this, his Junior year? Auburn’s defense isn’t quite as porous ar Michy’s, but teams have scored on them. THe reason they are where they are, is because of Newton and the offense! “Jizz-ic” (given: Gene Chizik) is riding newton to the Promised land, could Dick Rod have done the same thing? Could Terrelle have (given the op to play in a system he was born to play in)? Pryor wants to be the face of OSU, but you have to think he’s wondering is he made a mistake, playing Tressy-ball.

I know its hard for OSU fans to 2nd guess or even question their HBC, but once Pryor has moved on — I bet they start to wonder a little….as may the next “Terrelle Pryor”?
