ERLANGER, KY (FOX19) - Bar patrons are concerned after a local taxicab driver was recently charged with assaulting a customer he picked up.
Police say Mohamud Abukar, 38, sexually assaulted a female victim after her picked her up in a Yellow Cab taxi in Newport on October 10. The victim identified Abukar as the driver of the taxi and the suspect in the assault. On October 15, Abukar was arrested and charged with Rape.
“The first thing that went through my head was, this is ridiculous,” said Newport bar patron Aaron Bogren. “When I hear something like this, as a man it does not make me fear for my own safety, but as somebody that is friends with females, it makes me fear for theirs.”
Erlanger Police is looking for information from any other possible victims who have been in contact with Mohamud Abukar. Detectives describe the taxi as a white 2003 Ford, with Yellow Cab Co in black letters and the number 99 on the sides and back.
Managers at the Yellow Cab Company said they could not comment on the case, and would not even answer if Abukar was still an employee.

- Ask restaurant or bar employees for advice on finding a good cab company
- Don’t travel alone
- Ask the driver to provide your name and destination to make sure it’s the cab you ordered
- Sit in the back seat
Not sure about you, but I’ve never seen a taxi like the one described above. Hell, you might as well get into an old white van that has no side or rear windows that has “Buffalo Bob’s Taxi” painted on the side. And as if you needed any other signs not to get in the cab, his first name is spelled wrong. It’s Muhammad, not Mohamud. And never trust a dude that has the letters A-B-U-K- and R in his last name. Those are like the call signs of a Taliban training camp. Hope they catch this dude before he gets on a plane.
