Boone and McCoy Talkin’ Baseball

Former Red and current Houston Astro Aaron Boone and former Reds beat writer Hal McCoy will roundtable their baseball stories with fans on Jan.30. Click on the link for details.
McCoy and Boone’s friendship is a nice story. Hal had begun to lose his sight several few years back while Boone was still with the Reds. Spring Training came the following year and Hal wanted to attempt one more shot at covering the team for the Dayton Daily News. He recalled recently on Bill Cunningham’s show that the first day back was the scariest day of his life. He could only see bodies and not the individual players in the clubhouse. He began to walk out of the clubhouse devastated. Aaron Boone yelled to him, “Hal where ya going?” Aaron could see he was struggling and took his arm. “We’re going to sit down and you’re going to do your job.” said Boone. From then on their bond tightened even more.
