…consume alcohol at the company xmas party and fall down the staris?, or speed on the way to work?….Your career options are disappearing, if you aren’t careful!
It use to be, just being stupid was what got you sent out the interview door “fast”,….now, it seems as if your breath and your belly are bigger “Job Opp” turnoffs than any “Gump-like” mental gaff you make!

It started several years ago, and has been gaining speed with acceptance. Lawyers won’t let ANYONE cap the malpractice rewards (and they ARE indeed rewards in many cases!), so there appears to be little reasonable relief in site to the out-of-control costs associated with health care! In response to that medieval medical costs’ scare, employers have been trying to cut the fat in their benefit plans. FAT .
To many, it might make sense that THIS GUY NOT be on YOUR medical plan. I can understand; where some people who take care of themselves, view some one like that as a drain on the plan, and a reason why they are paying more….still, think about the fact that as a smoker, a fatty, a skier, motorcycle rider, or (soon) ANY level of risk taker, is going to be restricting themsleves in job opportunities based on their habits!. Companies are justified, in some cases, to not take ON a claim,..or, to “buy a claim” so to speak; The Insurance compaines themselves will deny coverage for similar reasons on personal policies.
Again, this goes back to those heathen American Lawyers Fockin’ up our country, yet again. They sue medical institutions because a patients slips on a puddle of water that THEY themselves put on the floor!….LOOK HERE, or HERE,…..even HERE. There are endless examples of lawyer (and consumer) greed to support this, and as long a LAWYERS make the laws, well, it’ll continue to be the norm!
Just be careful out there on the side of the building, smoking, these days,..or when the camera rolls past you as you’re in the lunch room choking down that Thunder-burger and o-rings with a Bubba-soda…..Big Brother has a new agenda, and its watching YOU and your nasty (costly) habits, now!….Whose gonna hire a gay (aids), old (heart-attack), fat (pick one!), smoker (cancer) who rides a bike (accidents, bad risk taker) and drinks (liver)!?!?!?!….REPENT NOW, peoples!…REPENT NOW!

Smoking employees are less healthy than nonsmokers, are absent more, make more and more expensive claims for health and disability benefits, and endanger co-workers who breathe smoky air. Employers may establish smoke-free workplaces, but—beyond that—employers may absolutely discriminate against smokers. Absent some common-law or statutory prohibition, employers are free to hire whomever they wish. The Americans with Disability Act prohibits discrimination against “disabled” applicants or employees, but smokers are not “disabled,” nor “regarded as” being disabled. Moreover, statutory construction does not lead to the conclusion that smokers are “disabled.” Since the policy of government is to discourage smoking, and discrimination against smokers promotes nonsmoking, such discrimination is not only “not illegal”, it is good social policy.
