….something “good” about Florida!

This had to be like the devil swallowing holy water,…or, at least like giving a pill to a cat. (Of course, then you’re going to say,..”Who would give a pill to a cat in the first place?”…well, yes, that’s part of it!….Cats are, what $0.13 each?….and still over-priced in my book!). Herb Kirkstreit was asked, like nearly everyone in the country was or has been, about the Florida Gators chances to repeat in ’09. You know his response was tUFf to do, with stomach bile filling his mouth…..

We have months to debate whether the Florida Gators will be able to repeat as national champions. That includes college football commentators, who are never afraid to give their opinion.

But in a Q&A with rivals.com, ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit didn’t give a direct answer when he was asked, “Can the Gators repeat as SEC and national champions?”

Herbstreit: “Anytime you return your entire two-deep on defense, it’s a strength. I always start there with any team. You think about (quarterback) Timmy (Tebow) coming back along with the majority of his skill (players) and the offensive line. They have some guys that they have to replace, but there’s so much to be excited about. There’s still some work to do with the guys they lost. (Receiver) Louis Murphy was a talented player. (Receiver) Percy Harvin was a talented player. Those are two parts of the offense that you have to replace.”

He then was asked, “What is Florida’s biggest obstacle?

“The Gators biggest challenge is turning on “SportsCenter” and listening to guys like us because everyone is going to be telling them about how wonderful they are. They could beat someone by 30 and people are going to be questioning as to why they didn’t win by 40- or- 50. Tim (Tebow) dealt with that last year after he won the Heisman. They have to block all that out and play ball.”

Maybe Herbstreit will have a more definitive answer before the season starts.

I still can hear his tone, when he spoke of how UFlorida didn’t stand a chance against tOSU in the 2006 Title game, and many of the things he said in support of that missed prediction. Well, who knew the only thing he’d say MORE idiotic than (collectively) THAT, was his insider info on Les Miles taking up with Michigan!…….but still, we love our pretty Miss Herbstreit, don;t we…???
